ALOHA, Say the Pretty Girls

Theater Production, 2008
North Fourth Theater
Playwright: Naomi Iizuka
Producer: IN STRANGE COMPANY (Ensemble Theater Company)
Director: Rebeca Mayorga

Working with IN STRANGE COMPANY was such a treat that I joined them. The company's approach to theater was really right up my alley. My subconscious gravitates towards non-linear and poetic scripts while I strongly believe in the power and beauty of ensemble driven productions.

Andarse Por Las Ramas

Theater Production
Presented at the National Hispanic Cultural Center
Co Producers:NHCC and Working Classroom
Playwright: Elena Garro
Director: Rebeca Mayorga
Set and Costume Designer: Rebeca Mayorga
Lighting Designer: Daniel Chapman

For some reason I never thought of making theater in the United States in my native language until the prospect of Andarse Por Las Ramas came my way. Through this project I was reintroduced to Elena Garro's work, which I immediately loved. My inclination for surrealist texts and my desire to continue to work in Spanish makes me want to in the near future explore more of Garro's short plays.

This is my favorite play written by Federico Garcia Lorca because of its imaginative and complex world. So far, I consider Once Five Years Pass the most important and influential play in my career. It was during this process that my personal aesthetic began to take place.
